Currently Allmetal has several different Electronic
Procurement programs in
place. The following is a list of
those programs. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Electronic Data Interchange
Customer PC/Terminal Access
Mandatory Corporate Contract
Technical Support
EDI is the paperless exchange of procurement information such as
solicitations,
offers, contracts, purchase orders,
invoices, and payments electronically using
predefined data
formats. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Allmetal has been involved with EDI since early in 1983.
At that time one of its
largest customers invited Allmetal
to join their EDI system. After working with
their purchasing and
data processing personal in Cherry Hill - NJ, Allmetal
on
October 11, 1983 became the first vendor to receive orders
transmitted directly
from this customers computer. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Over the years, EDI has evolved from its birth by TDCC, to
its current easy to
use PC based systems. Today, most EDI systems can be
up and running in just
a matter of days. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For purchasing of both contract and non-contract items,
Allmetal has made
PC/Terminal access available to some of our
key customers. These terminals
and/or PC's are connected
directly to Allmetal's central computer in NY
via
modem. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Customers can check price and availability for any
item, enter a new order,
change an unshipped
order, or check the shipping information
for any of
their orders. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
New orders may be entered for either an immediate shipment, or for
shipment
at some later date. Orders for multiple future shipping dates
can be entered for
the same item. Quantities may be increased or
decreased, shipping dates may
be moved forward or backward for any
order prior to shipment. ~~~~~~~~~~
Allmetal, currently has mandatory fastener contracts in place with
some of their
customers. These contracts can cover not only the customer themselves
but the
customers sub-contractors also. Under the terms of the contract,
Allmetal has
supplied guaranteed prices, and was granted the sole source for
all the items list.
While the actual release of the order can be placed by mail, phone or
fax some
customers choose to release their purchase orders electronically.
The customer
maintains a database of contract items with price
and quantity minimums. The
customer enters an order into their
computer. Their computer then matches the
aforementioned information
to the database and then, electronically transmits a
purchase
order to Allmetal's computer. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
