I'm hearing some buzz about something called EDI. What is it?

EDI is the paperless exchange of procurement information such as solicitations, offers,
contracts, purchase orders, invoices, and payments, electronically between two trading
partners.

In most cases this is accomplished using predefined data formats, and the services of a
third party VAN (Value Added Network).

Over the years, EDI has evolved from its birth by TDCC, to its current easy to use PC
based systems. Today an EDI system can be put in place, and be up and running in just
a few days.

We would like to start a bin stocking program. How do we get started?

A quantity forecast covering one years usage of repetitively used fastener and electronic
hardware is submitted to Allmetal.

Based on this forecast, Allmetal will, quote a price (firm for one year) and suggest a bin
(container) quantity for each of the items submitted.

You will then, setup shelves in an area on your shop floor or in your store room, to house
two equal size containers of product for each of the items. The containers are stored two
deep by item in any sequence that you require. A barcode label furnished by Allmetal, is
attached to each container. Utilizing your existing inventory we will fill these containers.
Any empty containers will be moved to the empty container area for pickup by Allmetal.

In the mean time, We at Allmetal will setup a mirror image of your new storage area at
our warehouse, and place an initial order for the required backup inventory.
